Chasing Planes: B-29 Takeoff Sioux Falls
The engines roar to life, vibrating through the massive fuselage of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress. As we rumble down the runway in Sioux Falls, the anticipation builds. This legendary World War II bomber, once the most advanced aircraft of its time, is about to take to the skies once again.
The pilot pushes the throttles forward and the four Wright R-3350 engines unleash their full power. The B-29 accelerates, its 141-foot wingspan lifting us gracefully into the air. Below, the patchwork of farmland and the winding Big Sioux River grow smaller.
For a moment, we're transported back to 1945. But instead of a wartime mission, our flight is one of remembrance and wonder.
